International Summer Camp 2014

You are invited to the International Summer Camp (2) 2014 in Hebron, Palestine, hosted by Excellence Center, a local educational institution. ISC is a cultural immersion program for internationals taking place this summer. As a participant and cultural ambassador in Palestine, you will have the opportunity to experience Palestinian daily life and familiarize yourself with the area’s rich history. Visitors will have an authentic view of the West Bank led by Palestinian guides. and The camp includes staff from a variety of backgrounds regarding education such as intercultural communications and Palestinian studies. You will see the many traditions, cultures, foods and people of this vibrant land firsthand. In addition, this year’s participants will arrive in the West Bank just in time to experience one of the five pillars of Islam, Ramadan! This is one of the holiest months for Muslims, filled with prayer, celebrations, family and food once the sun goes down and the fasting ends. Ramadan is an important and celebrated time in Muslim countries, and participants’ arrival during the last two days of the holiday will provide a unique and wonderful glimpse into Islamic culture.

ISC’s Goal

The Excellence Center aims to achieve a diverse cultural exchange and social dialogue at ISC 2 by hosting people from around the world. These diverse perspectives will enrich the camp, the center and participants.

You will see true Palestinian life and be introduced to new points of view. The ISC 2 Program promises a positive and enriching experience.

ISC 2 provides the opportunity for internationals to:

v Live in Hebron, including trips to the old city, holy sites and local refugee camps

v Learn spoken Arabic from native speakers and embrace the opportunity to communicate with locals

v Travel to historical locations and nearby cities including Jericho, Ramallah,  and Bethlehem

v Spend time and live with a Palestinian host family, if desired

v Visit Palestinian universities, local institutions and organizations specializing in culture and education

v Eat local Palestinian foods and desserts

v Attend cultural nights featuring entertainment, activities and sports

v Listen to distinguished lecturers discussing Palestinian heritage and history

Proposed daily schedule of the International Summer Camp 2014 (subject to minor changes)

  • Saturday, July 26, Day 1: Arrival. Meeting representatives from the Excellence Center for an overview and discussion of the program. Meeting host families and spending the evening with them.
  • Sunday, July 27, Day 2: A tour in the old city of Hebron. Visiting the Ibrahim Mosque. Visiting Al Shuhada Street and meeting Palestinian families who live there to gain insight on living conditions in the old city of Hebron and its history. Ramadan Iftar and overnight in Hebron.
  • Monday, July 28, Day 3: Tour in the old city of Bethlehem. Visit to the nativity church. Dinner in Bethlehem and overnight with host families.
  • Tuesday, July 29, Day 4: Visiting Alfawar refugee camp in the south of Hebron, meeting with refugees and talking to them about refugees’ history. Spending the evening at a coffee shop in the city of Hebron, overnight in Hebron with host families.
  • Wednesday, July 30, Day 5: Visiting some local factories which produce shoes, glass and Coffiya. Visit to the Al Maskopiah church in the city of Hebron. Dinner and overnight in Hebron with host families.
  • Thursday, July 31, Day 7: A tour in the city of Rammalh. Visiting the city center and Arafat’s tomb. Free time. Dinner in Rammallah and overnight in Hebron with host families.
  • Friday, August 1 , Day 6: Free day
  • Saturday, August 2, Day 8: A full day in Jericho including swimming at the Dead Sea, visiting the Hisham Palace.  Lunch in the city Center. Dinner in Jericho, overnight in Hebron with host families.
  • Sunday, August 3, Day 9: Visit to a small village in Hebron. Meeting with Palestinian youth there. Lunch included. Visiting a settlement around Hebron and providing description on the occupation of the Palestinian lands. Dinner at the Excellence Center and overnight with host families.
  • Sunday, August 5, Day 10: Free time in the morning. Spending time in a local park in the city of Hebron. Giving participants their certificates. Overnight with host families.
  • Monday, August 6, Day 11: Departure

Eligibility for ISC 2

People  who are 18 and older are eligible to participate in ISC 2. To apply, please read the enclosed information and submit your resume as well as a completed application to apply@excellencenter.org by July 15th, 2014.

ISC’s 2 Dates

Excellence Center will host the 2014 International Summer Camp 2 in Hebron from July 26th through August 6th.

Deadline to Apply

The deadline to apply is the 15th of July 2014.

Associated Fees

ISC fees amount to 510 Euro or 700 $. Accommodation, food, and travelling within Palestine during the week are included and will be arranged for the guests. Participants who coordinate a group (more than 3 people) get a discount

Selection Date

We will confirm your acceptance to participate in ISC 2 via email.  Following your selection we will arrange a meeting via Skype to discuss the details of your trip and travel arrangements.

Accommodation

Travel arrangements and accommodation within the West Bank will be scheduled and coordinated by Excellence Center. Participants have the option of staying with a host family or in a rented apartment.

Visa

A tourist visa valid for 90 days will be granted to you upon your arrival in Israel. There is no need to obtain a visa ahead of time.

Traveling to and from Hebron

Travel instructions will be sent upon your enrollment in the International Summer  Camp 2 (ISC) in Hebron- Palestine.
